Install Acer H6502BD

Updated: Jul 15, 2020

Acer stopped manufacturing the H6510BD. This meant we needed to find a new projector for our printers. We tried a few different projectors and in the end we decided to go with the Acer H6502BD. This tutorial will explain how to install the Acer H6502BD on the current line of Gizmo printers. Future versions of the printers will already be configured for the new Acer projectors.

These photos are of the prototype brackets. The brackets that go out to customers are powder coated in black.

Front projector bracket

We didn't need to replace the front bracket completely to be able to install the new projector. You will notice the bracket is a little taller than the projector. This was done so that we could move the projector higher up to be able to display a larger image on the GiziMate. We also had to do this because the projector feet was a problem. It can be difficult to work with the projector when the printer is configured with a small projection area and the projector is in a high position. This is why the mount allows the projector to be moved to a high or a low position. The low position will be the standard position.

Attach the adapter bracket to the projector with the provided M4 bolts and screw the adapter plate to the main bracket of the printer with the provided M3 bolts.

The screenshot of the design shows how the projector might sit in the low or the high position. Please note, it isn't possible to install two projectors on the single bracket at the same time.

Back projector bracket

We had to completely replace the back bracket because the projector feet couldn't line up with any of the holes in the current back bracket.
