Alternate between printing speeds to suit your high resolution or super-fast output needs.
One of the factors that users of Gizmo 3D Printers appreciate the most is that they are highly configurable machines. This allows fantastic flexibility for helping you to obtain the best print result for your project.
Where most other printers have only one standard speed at which they print, users of Gizmo 3D Printers have three printing methods they can play with to enhance their 3D print result.
The three Gizmo 3D printing methods available to users without a wiper installed on their machines are:
1. THE STANDARD SPEED 3D PRINTING METHOD
Gizmo 3D Printers are set by default to print using this method.
The Standard Speed printing method is technically the slowest and most forgiving printing method. You don't need to know much about the printer or the restrictions that apply to the other printing methods to get a good result when printing using this method. It's the easiest, most straightforward to use, most reliable, and predictable of the three printing methods.
When Gizmo 3D customers are sent a link to our software Gizmetor, the settings are set to print extremely slow using the Standard Speed printing method. This helps to ease the learning curve for users who are new to printing on Gizmo 3D printers. Customers can then learn to speed up their printer during a personalized one-on-one Installation and Training session where a Gizmo 3D advisor can guide them via Skype. The Skype training is done with the customer's prints as examples, so they get help achieving the best settings to obtain the results they desire.
Therefore the Standard Speed printing method is not optimized for speed; it's optimized to ensure the print will work - whether it's big, small thick or thin, the print will work. You can consider this printing method to be a common denominator.
The max wall thickness you can print using this method is 30mm.
2. THE HYBRID-CONTINUOUS 3D PRINTING METHOD
This method is faster than the Standard Speed printing method but slower than the next printing method we'll be describing, which is the Continuous or Full Continuous 3D printing method. Using the Hybrid Continuous 3D printing method, we can usually print at a speed of around 1mm to 2mm per minute.
The build plate moves up and down very fast when printing in this method, and only pauses when the light shines onto the resin.
If the object you are printing is shaped in such a way that it prevents the resin from flowing over the entire surface between printing layers, it's best to use the standard 3D printing method instead. As the movement of the build plate will then include a pause, the resin will then have enough time to flood over the entire surface between printing layers.
The max wall thickness you can print using this method is 10mm.
3. THE CONTINUOUS OR FULL CONTINUOUS 3D PRINTING METHOD
This method is the fastest of the three and can print up to 6mm per minute.* It's ideal for printing thin items such as wireframe-like prints or non-solid prints such as the print in the photo below for example.
Using this method requires good resin flow through the bottom of the printed part so ensure you have at least one exit hole or more designed into the bottom of your 3D model.
The max wall thickness you can print using the continuous or full continuous printing method is 1mm.
USING A COMBINATION OF THE THREE PRINTING METHODS:
It is possible to change between printing methods in a single print. This flexibility can be advantageous when 3D printing. For instance, you might print the first ten layers at standard speed so that you can make sure you get a good base to keep the 3D print securely attached to the build plate. It's a good idea to then switch over to printing supports with the hybrid-continuous method since you can get away with some resin flow blockage and then change over to full continuous if the print allows it.
Please note: Any model that features flat areas has to be printed with the flat areas at an angle of between 25 to 45 degrees.
*The type of resin, size of the projection area and the strength of the UV LED projector determines the maximum speed at which an object can be 3D printed.
